With the recent attacks at the U.S. Consulates in Benghazi, Libya; Cairo, Egypt; Kabul, Afghanistan; and Sana’a, Yemen, we urge all domestic and foreign applicants with appointments at any Consulate to use caution and follow the Consulate’s specific guidelines. Since security will be increased at all Consulates, not just those affected by the recent attacks, Berardi Immigration Law recommends the following actions when attending your appointment:
Calmly and immediately comply with any request from Embassy or Consular personnel;
Bring your valid passport and appointment notice;
Do NOT bring any ELECTRONIC devices including, but not limited to, cell phones, laptops, iPods, etc.;
Do NOT bring any large bags or purses. Any documents needed at the appointment should be carried in an envelope;
Arrive with enough time to get through security but no more than 30 minutes earlier than your appointment.
The U.S. Department of State issues Travel Warnings when long-term, protracted conditions make a country dangerous or unstable. These types of conditions lead the State Department to recommend that Americans avoid or consider the risk of travel to that country. A Travel Warning is also issued when the U.S. Government’s ability to assist American citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of a drawdown of its staff.
