Global Entry Program to be made Permanent

Recently, DHS published a final rule establishing the Global Entry pilot program as a permanent initiative.  Global Entry allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers expedited clearance through the international arrivals and admissions process at one of 20 U.S. international airports.
Global Entry members may utilize streamlined, automated kiosks as an alternative to regular passport processing lanes.  At the Global Entry kiosks, trusted travelers scan their passport or alien registration card (“green card”), provide digital fingerprints for comparison with their records on file, answer customs declaration questions via touch-screen, and then show a transaction receipt to a CBP officer prior to departing the inspection area.  Wait times by those processing through the kiosks have been reduced by more than 70%.
This final rule will allow CBP to expand the program to additional U.S. international airports and extend the benefit to eligible dependents of currently enrolled family members.  Global Entry is available to all U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, Canadian citizens who are members of NEXUS, Mexican nationals, and citizens of the Netherlands.
