The Department of Labor has recently released Permanent Labor Certification Program (PERM) statistics from fiscal year 2014. PERM certification verifies to USCIS that there are no available U.S. workers for a U.S. job position. To learn more about PERM certification, please click here. Here are some of the most noteworthy statistics:
• For the Fiscal Year 2014, 74,936 PERM applications were received by USCIS. This is a 3 percent change from fiscal year 2013.
• 62,633 applications were certified, 4,349 were denied and 4,016 were withdrawn.
• The top five occupations were computer and mathematical with 57 percent; architecture and engineering with 12 percent; management with 8 percent; business and financial operations with 6 percent; and education, training, and library with 5 percent.
• The top five worksites were California with 24 percent, Texas with 10 percent, New York with 8 percent, and New Jersey and Washington each with 7 percent of applications.
• The top five industries were professional, scientific and technical services with 44 percent of applications; manufacturing with 16 percent; information with 10 percent; educational services with 7 percent; and finance and insurance with 6 percent.
• The top five visa classifications were H-1B, L-1, blank, F-1 and TN.
• The top five countries of citizenship were India with 56 percent, China with 7 percent, Canada with 5 percent, South Korea with 4 percent and the Philippines with 2 percent.
• As for the processing status of PERM applications, 60 percent of applications received analyst review, 30 percent received audit reviews, 9 percent were appealed and 1 percent involved sponsorship.
