While the CIS website is comprehensive and contains information regarding applications, government fees, filing procedures and case status, individuals who are not familiar with immigration regulations and practices or who have encountered difficulties with their case, may seek the advice of a CIS Information Officer. Information Officers are available to the public by phone or in person at local District Offices and may provide general information regarding immigration and nationality regulations, elicit information to determine prima-facie eligibility for filing certain applications or petitions, dissuade aliens from filing for benefits that they believe the applicant may not be eligible for, advise the public on procedural questions in order to facilitate the application process, and obtain and assess basic intelligence information to identify and report trends to enforcement units. Information Officers can process only a limited number of inquiries per day and are unable to advise individuals with complicated legal issues. Additionally, they are only able to access information electronically and many times do not have the ability to provide specific information with regard to a particular case. If you have contacted CIS and are still unsure of your case status or how to properly proceed with an application or petition, we encourage you to contact Berardi Immigration Law at 877-721-6100 or send us an e-mail by clicking here.
Page summary: Information Officers can provide general advice but you may want to consult an attorney for complicated cases or in-depth questions.
